1,100 Acre Tonasket Wildfire Force Evacuations
A wildfire near east of Tonasket began growing Monday afternoon in Okanogan County.
The Bugg Road wildfire expanded quickly to 1,100 acres and began threatening homes Monday afternoon. By 6:15 p.m., authorities issued a level 3 evacuation near Siwash Road and N. Oberg. Dispatchers said at least seven helicopters were called to the scene to fight the fire. The evacuation order was dropped within 15 minutes.
The fire burned less than a mile from Ann Coleman's home. She said the fires across the state have been closing in on her family all week.
The Department of Natural Resources originally reported the fire around 3:30 p.m. in the Siwash Creek area.
Fire crews said ground attacks were hindered because most firefighters were already at the Carlton Complex fire.
Monday night, crews were just starting to get mobilized to fight the fire. They created a bulldoze line to impede its growth.
No word yet on containment.
